Black Rock Mountain State Park, GA 5/4-6/18

What a perfect spring camping weekend at Black Rock Mountain, Georgia’s highest elevation State Park. Only a little over an hour from Sapphire, but a new adventure for us. We fell in love with it! It’s absolutely gorgeous!

Took a short hike from the campground to Ada-HI Falls & Norma Campbell Cove. Did the tougher (elevation wise) 3mi Tennessee Rock Trail from the CG, then drove to do the Black Rock Lake Loop on our way out Sunday. Wiley loved making a canjo on Saturday morning at the Ranger led activity. The staff was super nice!

The campground has incredible 360’ views & immaculate facilities. We hit the rhododendrons and wildflowers bursting and beautiful. Our site, #40 was private, wooded, and had a gorgeous sunset & mountain view. Be sure not to miss the fantastic view and shop at the Visitor’s Center.

The park had great cell coverage, so definitely someplace we can work remotely. We’ll return and stay longer to hike and enjoy the beauty. Add this one to your short list!

  1. Hello! I enjoyed your gorgeous photos in the NC Waterfall group in FB. I’m a painter — my husband and I live in Woodstock, NY and are also high-maintenance hippies who love all the fun and happiness that life can pile on. I show my work in Asheville and we travel there to hike and paint waterfall sites. Would it be okay with you if I check back in with you and let you know when we’d be around. It would be so great to have some hiking buddies who are on our same page to being with. You can check out my work at or at on my ARTISTS page. Wishing a Happy Mothers Day to both of you and the fur babies! PLease feel free to email me back at the email address below if you like. Peace and love from Woodstock, Mariella ( and David too)

    1. Sent you an email:)

  2. What weekend were you there? We were there this past weekend (5.11-5.13).

    1. Hi! We were there 5/4-6. Read your harrowing tale from BRMSP. Sorry. I will say, we lucked out on the #40 campsite, which was private and had a good view (for next time if you come back in another camper). Your pics were beautiful. Love your writing! Where are you all based? Would love some of your fave campground recs. TIA

      1. We freaked ourselves out coming up in the dark and the drive doesn’t compare to Cloudland or Fort Mountain. When we woke up Saturday we really got to enjoy the view. I’m not opposed to still camping in a tent and would love to come back to Black Rock Mtn.

We are out of Acworth, GA. Vogel is probably our favorite State Park and McKinney is our favorite COE.

        1. Sounded super scary. I would have come unhinged.

Love Cloudland and Vogel. Need to check out Fort Mountain and McKinney.

Love that you’ll tent camp after having a camper. My husband laughed at me when I suggested tent camping recently. He’s a totally high maintenance husband.

Hope to see you down the road. Safe travels and fun times!
